David’s lockdown hair goes large

When David Boni sent us his photo for the #stayhomeheroes campaign organised by the brilliant Lu Howlett, Dawn Moretti and Ross Taylor  we couldn’t stop laughing.  Which frankly, was just what we needed under the circumstances and we were delighted to see it on billboards across the country.

We hope that the other people who saw it on the billboards and the papers felt the same  – that David’s haircut made them laugh and also raised money for this brilliant charity. If you want to donate too, here’s the link: https://www.helpthemhelpus.co.uk/donate/

David wrote a few words about how his haircut came about – take them as a warning…

When lockdown started in earnest and the whole world found itself wondering what was going on, it became instantly apparent that I and millions of others had another ( albeit trivial ) crisis to deal with: Hair.

I’d been too busy for a haircut for a couple of months, and by the time lockdown kicked it was out of control.  I’d pondered letting it grow out and maybe going for middle aged man bun or perhaps trying out the buzz cut I’d always fancied but both ( quite rightly ) were met with “no chance” by my amazing other half. Home haircut it was – Mel, my partner had time on her hands and was super keen to have a go.  Obviously I was reluctant, but now I was beginning to resemble Ken Dodd, so I caved in. Armed with a pair of really dodgy blunt scissors and my beard trimmer we sat in the garden and off she went. Focused and determined it all seemed to be going well until I decided to dish out some advice “you want to set the beard trimmer to 1.5mm” …

By the time she reached for the mirror and the customary big reveal, tears were running down her cheeks, this didn’t bode well. Why was she laughing? The mirror told me she’d done a good job, the front and sides looked professional in fact. I was an extremely happy customer but then I saw the back…

We ended up in fits of laughter for the first time since lockdown, a welcome relief just when we needed it and I love my haircut almost as much as I love my Mel.
